Hambrook Couple Win Prestigious Award

After many years service to both club and the Bristol Youth Cricket League, Hambrook couple Sandra Fox p1010209and Peter Woore were presented the prestigious “David Allen Outstanding Services to Cricket Award” at the BYCL AGM on Wednesday evening. The award was presented by Joyce Allen in memory of her late husband and former Gloucestershire, England player David who was a patron of the BYCL.

It was noted that for many years Sandra provided much support to Peter as the then head of Youth Cricket at Hambrook, a post he held for approximately 10 years until 2002.

Sandra has also been an integral part of BYCL Management committee for many years in roles that have included Assistant General Secretary and following the explosion in numbers following the 2005 Ashes as Registrations Secretary.

During this period the BYCL expanded to include U11’s league and cup competitions and the U9’s Kwik Cricket.

Peter has had an association with Hambrook going back 50+ years as a player, club officer and youth team manager, at one point managing 3 age groups at the same time.

Peter was elected Vice Chairman of the BYCL in 1999 and held the post until standing down this year. Peter’s other main role was Chair of the BYCL Disciplinary Committee for the past 6 years, a position he has offered to continue with.

Between them Sandra and Peter, they have been the face of the BYCL U9’s Kwik Cricket Festivals since at least 2009, being ever present on the day (all day) performing the duties of liaising with the host club, meet and greet, fixture re- scheduling (for teams that are no shows) presenting the awards and master of ceremonies.

Hambrook Chairman Martin Dyer said, “I first met Sandra and Pete when I came to the club nearly twenty years ago. The support they showed not only my children but countless others was always appreciated by the parents”. He went on to add “Youth cricket back then looked much different to what it does today. My earliest recollection was Friday night training consisted of Pete, a kit bag and 30+ kids – a scene best described as crowd control rather than coaching. Over the years we came to know both of them as friends and a source of valuable advice whenever it was needed. Having served on the BYCL committee myself, I can vouch the award is only ever given to those who go above and beyond in services to youth cricket”.

At the BYCL AGM it was also announced Pete that was to be made an honoury Vice President of the BYCL.

A massive well done and thank you to Sandra and Peter from everyone at Hambrook for all you have done, the award is well deserved!!
